AMANDA MAHER
Powertrain Systems Engineer
TUNING INTO TEAMWORK
Amanda Maher works and lives up-tempo. Whether she’s composing a new piano concerto or improving diesel truck engine emissions, the Navistar Powertrain Systems Engineer takes an all-in approach.
STEADFAST STUDENT
As a new engineer, Amanda’s determined to absorb and learn as much as she can. And she’s grateful for the high-octane support that ignited during her internship with Navistar’s Vehicle Cooling Design team. Amanda values her “patient and brilliant” manager – a chief Powertrain engineer, access to many mentors and the collaborative environment “where there are no silly questions, and I can get help with anything.” Keenly interested in Navistar’s electric vehicle future, Amanda’s charging up her growth. She’s earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering through a local university partnership program, with 100% of tuition covered by Navistar.
HEARTFELT HARMONIZER
A trained classical pianist, Amanda compares assembling a heavy-duty truck to composing a song. Both processes involve layers of complexity that take care and attention to polish and perfect. Making a truck run efficiently calls for huge collaboration where cross-functional teams unite on refining component designs and engine assemblies with testing, calibrations and validations. “In the end, you get a beautiful song – or a big, beautiful new vehicle.”
GRATEFUL GO-GETTER
While she focuses on how her work impacts others – customers, colleagues and communities – Amanda wants to share the encouragement racing her way. As a member of the Women in Navistar (WIN) employee resource group, she’s “blown away by seeing such accomplished and welcoming women in action, candidly discussing how to find your own power as a woman in the workplace.”
