Navistar and the UAW have resumed bargaining discussions following a brief recess. Employees are expected to continue to report to work as scheduled per the terms of the 2010 contract, which has been extended.

“To be competitive, we must be able to embrace lean principles in every aspect of our operation,” said Barry Morris, director of labor relations, Navistar.  “Other manufacturers are further along in adopting lean and have more flexible work rules.  To be competitive, we must have the same advantages.”

“We remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached,” Morris added.  “We’re going to work hard and focus on getting a competitive agreement as soon as possible.”
